Artist in Residence
Monday 17 August 2015 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
At Toonspeak we regularly host residencies for artists in our wee studio in Royston.
Residencies allow artists space to explore new ideas, developing theatre and performance work in a supportive space. They also allow people to explore their artistic practice within another community; meeting new people and sharing their work in progress with young people who gain insights, inspiration and in turn, offer valuable feedback for the artists to then work with.
Our current Artists in Residence are Julie O’Leary and Hannah McLean who make up Allofthethingstheatre.
About the Artists
Hannah and I met in September 2013 when we both began an M Litt in Theatre Practices at Glasgow University. We both had a background in facilitating theatre projects but took on the masters to develop and strengthen our own arts practice, using the opportunity to collaborate with new people and create new work. Somewhere along the line, we decided to start our own theatre company called Allofthethings. Our company is very much in the early stages of development and we are seeking opportunities and spaces for us to play and develop work together. As a company we are mostly interested in developing new devised theatre, while maintaining our interests in theatre in education.
Julie and Hannah will be working with young people in St. Roch’s Secondary here in Royston during their residency, engaging them in the development of their new work which is exploring aspects of social media and advertising, and their affects on us as human beings.
