That’s right! Toonspeak’s Rookie Writers are through to Scotland’s first ever Youth Poetry Slam, which has all been organised through the brilliant organisation, Confab.

The Slam is for young people aged 11 – 13 years old, teams from all across Scotland have been competing against each other, mainly from schools, we are the only youth theatre so we are super proud to have done so well! Each team was paired with a writer and we are super chuffed we had Rachel McCrum. In two short days this lot came up with some absolutely fabulous pieces.

Here is our very impressive wee team at the front.

We traveled through to the MacRobert Arts Centre in Stirling to compete in the Regional Slam. Teams performed a group poem, which we won by a majority.

ThenĀ  3 individuals from each team performed solos. Hannah Watters got First Runner up. Summer Holly and Rachel Pole also did really, really well which means that we were 2nd out of 6 teams!

It was absolutely amazing! Big shout out also Stanley Richardson, Sarah Stewart, who were brilliant in the group and Lennon Day who got an Outstanding Achievement Award from Rachel McCrum.

Unfortunately, Millie and Louise couldn’t be there on the day of the Regional, but they are competing in the Final. Hannah and Stan are missing it though, which will be a massive loss, but we are so proud of what they have achieved so far.

The Slam Final is THIS THURSDAY and we have a massive bus if anyone would like to come along and support them. It’s at the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock. For more details call us (0141) 552 0234 or email direct.
