And we are super excited to have not only Cat Hepburn from our partners Sonnet Youth but also Kevin P. Gilday! They will be directing our young performers for the event, curating some more amazing professional acts and they are of course our fabulous hosts.
Cathy will be working with previous participants and hopefully some new ones too who’d like the opportunity to develop new, original pieces of writing. These are always truly special sessions due to the nurturing environment that is created. An absolutely brilliant bunch of young writers have emerged so we are absolutely delighted to be hosting another event for them.
So what is the night?
Sonnet Youth² is an event created by Toonspeak in collaboration with Sonnet Youth that gives young people the platform to perform their own writing alongside professional spoken word acts. These take place in the basement venue of Stereo in the heart of the city centre and are aimed at anyone over the age of 14. We always get an incredible mix of people in our audience from other young people, to arts professionals, friends, family and various members of the spoken word scene.
If you would are a young person aged between 14-25 and would like to join in the workshops will take place on the following dates in the Toonspeak Studio from 7pm – 9pm. They are all completely free and we provide taxis to and from the workshop.
